A man comes into your house, like a nightmare once at bay, and holds a gun to your head, forcing you that if you let him play the original Super Mario Bros. videogame immediately with what you have in your place of residence (or somewhere at hand), and if he can, you are free and he shall vanish, waking you up from this horrible nightmare, otherwise you are stuck in the dream, panicked for your life.

Downloading a ROM on your computer to play the original Super Mario Bros is not an option, unless you already have it downloaded on your computer, or stored somewhere else. Can you let the man play the original game without downloading a ROM at the moment. In which ways can he play? What are the options? Do you have the original game at hand right now?

I have it on my switch, so I'd be ok.
Sometimes I'm so focused on being nice I forget to be good.

I have it on my Switch and I even got that NSO NES controller if he wants to use that.
I make games with my friend DJ Coco sometimes. Check them out here: https://cliax-games.com/

The reason for this spontaneous topic thread was to essentially ask the question, "Is the original Mario game the most accessible videogame of all time?" Considering that it has been remade throughout its entire 40-year span across NES Classic, Wii, Switch, Game & Watch, and countless other ways. Also considering that this is a Mario fansite/development site. Psychologically, if someone doesn't have access to the game right now, they probably won't post at all. You have more reason to post if you did have access, otherwise you are stuck in the nightmare, which nobody wants to be in.

With my late night thoughts on hand, I thought, maybe it is Pac-Man? I had a handheld device growing up that was just a Pac-Man level. Or maybe now, it is Minecraft? I missed out on this game, but assuming the kids growing up with it is beyond my comprehension.

According to an AI bot, it is Tetris. And then they consider Snake, PONG (Also something you maybe be able to code or make yourself if capable), Minesweeper, Solitaire, basic computer games. But even now, the newer computers don't have minesweeper.

Checkers and chess are very common boardgames, but thats not a "videogame". Tic-Tac-Toe is easy to replicate. But they are not "videogames" like the original Mario.

At what time period through its 40 year life do you think it was at its peak owndership? The 80s? The 90s?

I am not 100% sure I trust the armed dreamworld specter enough to let him play my NES.

But yeah, I have a working SMB1 cartridge and a working NES. As an alternative, I also have a working Super Mario All-Stars cartridge and a working Super NES.

I agree that a high percentage of households have some version of SMB1 playable somewhere. I think that number has only increased as the number of ways to play this game has increased.

I have it on my Wii (both through the Virtual Console and Super Mario All-Stars), Wii U, 3DS, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and a Super Mario All-Stars cartridge that can be played on my RetroN 5. If this ain't enough ways to play Super Mario Bros. already, then I don't know what will. I would even let him play the demo of it in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, or amiibo tap: Nintendo's Greatest Bits. Or let him play NES Remix Pack just to unlock Super Luigi Bros. if he wanted to. LULZ
