MFGG Ruleset 9.0

1) No NSFW Material

• Do not post text, images, or media of a pornographic or sexually explicit nature.
  
• Don't post content depicting extreme violence, or anything else that would be unsafe for work.
  
• Mildly NSFW content (say, a trailer for an M-rated game) may be permitted in some cases, but include spoiler tags and an appropriate warning.
  

2) No Illegal Content

• Never post or ask for any illegal software, media, or commercial ROMs. ROM hacks are fine if they are distributed as patches.
  
• Don't post malicious software of any kind.
  

3) Be Nice to One Another

• Don't flame, harass, troll, or threaten other members. Be respectful to everyone, and keep all critique constructive in tone.
  
• Do not provoke arguments or attempt to "bait" other members.
  
• Be respectful of things people have limited to no control over, such as their race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, or disability, and don't use offensive terminology about someone's group.
  
• Always get permission before revealing any sensitive personal information about someone else.
  

4) Keep Swearing to a Minimum

• Keep swearing to a minimum.
  
• Don't attempt to bypass the swear filter.
  
• If profanity appears in media you're sharing, use spoiler tags or an appropriate warning.
  

5) No Throwaway Posts

• The message boards encourage meaningful, well-thought out discussions. Posts that have little effort or discussion value (such as a reaction image or a single-word response) may be removed at a moderator's discretion. Note that the PPP is somewhat more lenient.
  
• Do not deliberately derail threads or disrupt conversations.
  
• Don't create a large number of new topics within a short span of time.
  
• Posts that are written using generative artificial intelligence tools will likely be removed, especially if we think you're a spambot.
  

6) No Spam

• Spambots will be banned on sight. If you create an account just to promote an irrelevant commercial product, you'll be banned immediately without getting a warning first.
  
• You can talk about your own website, YouTube channel, or anything of that sort in General Chat. However, please do not create more than one topic for such advertisements.
  

7) No Drama

• Do not fuel the flames if you see a post that might break the rules - instead, report such posts so the mod team will be aware of the issue.
  
• Requests to warn or ban a member may only be discussed in private.
  
• Don't continue or repost a topic that has been locked by a moderator due to it violating the rules.
  
• Don't use MFGG to continue arguments or drama that started elsewhere.
  

8) General Maturity
Be an intelligent, sensible contributor to MFGG. Some things to avoid:

• Writing in barely understandable English ("typin liek dis........ XDXDXD") or foreign languages, or consistently showing an inability to understand basic English.
  
• Bumping old topics without a valid reason.
  
• Constantly asking other members to make things for you. Requests should be polite and infrequent.
  
• Asking for help in some way (advice in General Chat, or critique in the development/arts boards) and then showing a complete disregard for any help that is given.
  
• Making duplicate accounts. If you need an alternate account for hosting a special event, check with forum staff first.
  

We reserve the right to ban serial or flagrant violators of the rules.

Additional Notes
These don't affect your day-to-day posting as much as the above, but are still worth noting:

• Keep your account secure. Use a strong password that isn't used on any other online account, and log out of your MFGG accounts if you use a shared device.
  
• Don't share accounts with anyone else.
  
• We reserve the right to ban accounts created with IP addresses associated with proxies, or "throwaway" e-mail accounts, both of which are frequently used by spambots and other troublemakers.
  
• Avatars and signatures should not contain seizure-inducing or otherwise annoying imagery.
  
• Signatures should stay within a reasonable file size and should not be more than 400 pixels tall.
  
• You can change your username without needing to contact an admin. Name changes are logged, though, so don't change your name to something that breaks the rules.
  
• Use spoiler tags when discussing potential plot spoilers or unreleased content.
  
• It can be difficult to tell the intended tone of posts on the Internet, so be careful when using sarcasm.
  
• Font colors and sizes that are difficult to read may be edited.
  
• Do not try to find flaws or loopholes in the rules and abuse them. MFGG staff considers both the letter and spirit of the rules.
  
• If you're interested in knowing what data is collected when you use the MFGG forums, click here. We collect very little user data, and it can be removed upon a reasonable request.

=200MFGG Warning System

The MyBB forums use a simplified version of the phpBB warn system. Everyone is starting with a clean slate, with 0 points on their record. Every time you are disciplined for breaking a rule, warn points will be added to your account. The exact number will depend on the offense. Periodically, points will expire from your account. Your current warning status can be seen in each of your profiles. Some of the major details are listed below:

• Each user maxes out at 10 warn points.
  
• If you reach your warn point maximum, you will be automatically suspended for one year.
  
• Every 20 days, one point will automatically expire from your account.
  
• Except in special situations, users will be suspended by the warning system, not by a moderator. More on that below.
  

At higher percentages, users will be automatically suspended each time they receive a warning. The suspension times are fixed by the board and relate only to your current warn status, not what you are receiving a warning for. The following list gives the times and warning levels.

• 50%: Suspended for 1 day
  
• 70%: Suspended for 1 week
  
• 90%: Suspended for 1 month
  
• 100%: Suspended for 1 year
  

Mods will assign warning points from ranges defined for the following 4 categories:

• Small offenses: 1 point
  
• Medium offenses: 1 - 2 points
  
• Big offenses: 2 - 3 points
  
• Super offenses: 7 - 10 points
  

The definition of small, medium, big, and super are up to the moderating team. The moderating team maintains a loose guide for which types of offenses fit into which category, and each mod will decide at the time of warning how many points to assign from within a given category.

With version 8.7, I made three tweaks to the rules. All of these are clarifications of staff policy rather than things that change the way we moderate the forums.

• I updated the rules on both the forums and mainsite to make it clear that MFGG doesn't allow posting malicious software of any form. Fortunately, we've never had this problem on MFGG, and even in the unlikely event that someone posted malware, the MFGG staff checks all games to make sure they're safe, and we monitor the forums to make sure nobody's posting anything fishy. However, there was a recent problem with a game containing borderline malware in the Sonic fangaming community. "Malware" is a somewhat murky term to define, but it's reasonable to say that knowingly posting software that breaks stuff, deletes stuff, or records stuff without the user's knowledge or consent is a very, very bad thing to do. Any games, code, or external links you post should run without interfering with normal computer usage.
  
  
• I made an addition to Rule 3. Don't post sensitive personal information about other people without their permission. Again, MFGG has never had a problem with people posting personal details in an attempt to embarrass or harass people, but since "doxxing" and similar problems are a growing concern in the online world, I thought this was worth mentioning in the rules.
  
  
• Finally, I added a link to a new page about user privacy. If you're interested in knowing what data is collected when you use the MFGG forums, click here. Don't worry, though - we collect very little user data, and data can be removed upon a reasonable request.

Just giving everyone a fair warning that we're going to start following our stance on dupe accounts more closely. In the future, talk to a staff member before registering a dupe account. We may begin banning accounts registered that were not brought to our attention, but if you currently have a dupe account we haven't accounted for yet, please be sure to check in with us before posting as them from here on out.
