MFGG Celebrates its 25th Anniversary!

Hey everyone, July 9 marks 25 years of MFGG! Not very many websites make it this far. Not even YouTube has been around for that long! (If you count Bowser Technologies, this place is even older.)

I gotta be honest, I put most of my mental energy into the mainsite update, and it's getting late for me (it's still the 8th where I'm at). I don't really have much to say that I haven't already said elsewhere. But something like needs deserves it's own special forum announcement, so here we are! 

Let's continue to make MFGG a shining bastion of Mario fan games!

Imagine if, not Nintendo, never ceasing the website or community down, as it is actually an asset, a creative asset of Nintendo, drawing inspiration both back and forth from fans to corporate gameplay and development. Nintendo draws inspiration from MFGG, as MFGG draws from Nintendo. The domain of classic Mario is wide open.

Im so glad to have been in this community and found awesome people to hang out with   even if i... wast the brightest starting out  its been an amazing ride and i'm looking forward to all the cool fangames, graphics, audios & more coming in the future!! this community has impacted me SO positively and helped me look into creating my own games (though it's... likely going to be A Lot Longer before i end up releasing one, heheh....). Nevertheless!! Thanks for being so fun and so cool to join!! Cheers!

Happy birthday MFGG! 25 years is quite a long run. We've outlasted so many other online platforms, both nonprofit communities and commercial entities. Technology has changed a bit in this quarter-century - most of our early users accessed MFGG over dial-up!

It's now been a couple of decades since I first heard about MFGG. I wasn't there for the very earliest years, but I've now been on MFGG for more than half my life, and making games has definitely had a significant influence on my education and career path.

It makes me happy to see MFGG chugging along after all this years. A lot of smaller, more creative communities have died out, after all. Sometimes it's been because of technical gremlins or internal drama, but often it's because big corporate-owned social media platforms have had a deleterious effect on smaller sites. On the other hand, I feel like there's some pushback against the more corporate and polarized platforms out there, and I hope people keep making wacky fangames and enjoying the smaller, more artisanal parts of the Internet (like MFGG!).

May MFGG have many more of these milestone anniversaries!
