Worlds
First of all, I think we've finally agreed on a list of "worlds" that gives us a nice mix of structure and flexibility. Here's what we're leaning towards:
  • Grassy/Hilly
  • Ruins/Sand/Volcano
  • Jungle/Beach
  • Ghost/Swamp
  • Ice/Dreadnought

Legend has it that there might be one more world after the alleged "final" world, and possibly even a secret world for the most diligent players!

Each world is an island that has its own personality. Chances are each world will conclude with a boss fight. The number of levels in each world isn't set in stone - this format gives us the flexibility to add more levels depending on our motivation and inspiration.

Levels
Currently, eight levels are complete, and a bunch of others are in progress. There are still opportunities to create levels if you're interested!

If you're interested in making levels, you'll need access to the CFP GitHub. If we don't know you well, we may request to see a sample of your previous work to get a feel for your level design skills. You'll also want to make sure you know the basics of Git. If you don't have an account on GitHub, you'll need to make one. Of course, anyone is more than welcome to contribute ideas for levels.

We don't have a lot of formal guidelines for making levels. However, most of our levels are going to be about as long as a typical level in Super Mario World. Difficulty should be comparable to SMW or SMB3, though it's fine to go a bit tougher since most fangame players have a decent amount of Mario platforming experience. Don't forget to include at least one Tusk Buck in every level.

A lot of the brainstorming happens on the CFP Discord, but I want to make sure that non-Discord users also have an opportunity to make levels and share ideas.
