What's the point of forums?

I've been on a few forums and a couple of discords in my time and I have to say, the pace of things is more comfortable of forums.

On forums, the conversations, discussions, and games are sort of pick-up and play. People join in when they have the time.

On discords, in my experiences at least, if you missed the conversation, that's it. (To clarify: I'm not on the MFGG discord)

But that is just my opinion.
