Not new, I've been here since 2004 and I've been monitoring the forum from the shadows sporadically since the split- Arguably I've been "gone" since 2011. Admittedly, I deeply regret not coming back; at the time I had a falling out with my love of game making. Computers have a nasty habit of breaking around me and although it seems like an excuse, I genuinely did experience a lot of technical difficulties in my youth which led to a lot of my projects getting scrapped- Projects which were way too out of the scope of what I was capable of, as well. I enjoyed mediocre success with the games I did finish (and looking back at them, I realise where I went so wrong.) but largely, I was unfocused and immature: In a more innocent capacity than malicious.
What have I been up to in the last... however many years it's been? - Let's just say it's not been good at all for me for now. I'll spare the details, but things now are absolutely fine. I'm doing great.
So what's actually new with me? I've recently gotten back into game development, but It would definitely appear I'm starting from square one again after all these years. I'm taking things way more seriously this time around; in my youth I expected myself to be just good at stuff and so, I wrongly expected myself to be just good at making games. I didn't have the right mental attitude to actually learn. To my own credit, I did end up getting... somewhere. It might not have been the level I'd liked to have been at, but I was getting more and more competent with the software I was using, even if I wasn't exactly professional. So, to remedy my own poorly spent youth (all that time making games but not learning to make games, ironic isn't it?) I've started using Unity, and started to learn how to actually code. It's been a very enjoyable experience and I've been feeling very at ease with learning it. I just wouldn't expect any fan games out of me. Those days, are definitely done. At least for now. Instead I've got some of my own projects to work on- maybe I'll talk about those some other time.
So it would seem fitting that once I started developing games again, memories of this place came rushing back- I spent my teenage years here and have so many fond memories of this board. I came back for the nostalgia (I've been combing through MFGG's archives lately), as I'm sure is a recurring story around this place these days, but I also came back because if I DO have a project at a point where there's something to show, for all the places I could choose to show it, I want to show it here as well. MFGG deserves it. I wouldn't feel right if I didn't at least post it here. I guess this account is something of an insurance policy for that.
Anyway, without further hesitation, if the oldbies watching are curious which fragment of the past has arrived this time, you once knew me as Flametale.
