It took me a while to warm up to anime as well. I'm still not really sure much modern anime productions grip me, but I've gotten into a considerable amount of retro/older anime over the years. Sailor Moon is a big one, that one quite appealed to my sensibilities. I like the character interactions, I like the (over)-use of stock footage, I like how it's kind of a "super sentai"-esque action show, it really has it all. It's also mostly meant for kids I guess, but it was still very enjoyable.
The Studio Ghibli films are phenomenal, I have yet to see all of them but I've seen a good chunk of them with my wife. I feel like if I had to rank them, the ranking would change every time I thought about it. Spirited Away obviously places very highly, but beyond that I'm not sure... I might have to give it some thought and jot it down one day. Or finish watching the rest of them. I still haven't seen Mononoke! Can you believe it? I have executive dysfunction pretty bad, okay??? It's hard to just... do stuff. I gotta be in the right mood and, gah, it doesn't just happen out of nowhere.
