When this incarnation of the MFGG forums opened in late 2017, coins were introduced with the idea that they could be earned in a myriad of ways (not just making posts/threads) and that they could be spent on cool rewards.
Well, that never came to pass. I see the coins as an unfortunate metaphor for how the MFGG forums had increasingly diminishing potential - yet, in spite of the waning popularity in its later years, still tried to do new things to entice the community to have fun. But all the half-measures kinda just kept petering out.
So no, the coins don't do anything. They just sit there and accumulate.
