Welcome to MFGG. I should check out Super Mario World Central a bit more.

Some of the technical information on that website is wrong though. They claim that clearing the sprite attributes table and rebuilding it every frame takes too much CPU speed, when it's actually much faster than trying to write around nonmoving sprites.
