Okay, I played the romhack, I liked the overworld design and the custom palettes on the levels, here's some issues I found:
And here's some suggestions for your romhack to stand out:
- The intro message on the end says "You must save him!", but assuming that Peach was kidnapped, it should be "You must save her!";
- The player started in the Blue Palace instead of Yoshi's Hut, I had to move the player on overworld;
- Multiple stages have either the intro music, level completed music or keyhole music, is this supposed to be custom music?;
- If you clear a level with the remaining time above 400 the score calculation overflows;
- In Kid Athletic there was a part in the arrow sign where I couldn't pass, I had to use the cape/shell jump to progress;
- In Sunset Kality the purple triangle doesn't work correctly;
- In Ghostly Rancho and second part of Iggy's Rebind the wrong music type is played;
- In Quicksand Fortress, Morton's Sandbox and Roy's Urami you can enter inside with Yoshi;
- In Summer Craft the Yoshi's tongue has the wrong graphics and you can enter inside the upside down slopes;
- In Rusty Cliffs the Goal Tape is missing, I had to use a cheat code to progress;
- In Dusre Fataboo the normal exit didn't work, I again had to use a cheat code to progress;
- The secret exit of Mushroom Coat didn't lead to the Red Palace.
And here's some suggestions for your romhack to stand out:
- The romhack itself has 8 MB, I think that's too much, 1 MB or 2 MB would be enough;
- The secret exits are too easy to find in my opinion, make it more hidden and harder to find;
- Add the Classic Piranha Plant and other obscure vanilla sprites to the levels;
- You could spice up the vanilla bosses by changing various attributes, for example giving more hitpoints (look on the ROM Map on SMW Central);
- Add gimmicks to make the levels more interesting (play the JUMP and YUMP romhacks to get an idea about this);
- Add custom music if your romhack doesn't have it yet (I discovered great songs just by playing SMW romhacks).
