You don't need a very powerful PC to make 2-D games in GM. Adding a couple of additional objects will not have a noticeable effect on performance unless you're doing something incredibly inefficient with your code.
Also, if you ever make a game in GM and you find it runs poorly on your machine, there's a strong chance that other people playing it will encounter performance issues as well. You probably don't need to spend money on a new PC or upgraded hardware unless your current gaming laptop is really old.
