They're taken from Vinny's Official List of Cool Stuff.
They're actually based on an algorithm that Mors made a bunch of years ago. The formula usually works reasonably well, but it seems to produce odd results at times, especially for the current year.
I also think it needs readjusting for two more recent changes:
1. It should incorporate the Plays metric now that MFGG supports HTML5 games
2. We should probably reduce the weight for Page Views because bot activity has increased dramatically in recent years
