Played the whole thing. It's... alright. I don't really feel it's a huge blemish on the series in the way 06 was or anything, but it's not terribly impressive, either.
Classic and Modern Sonic both control a bit strangely. Modern's acceleration kinda feels like it's tiered, as if you jump straight up from 0.3 to 1. Classic is a bit harder to pin down. He's more accurate than Generations in some ways but less accurate in others.
Level design is indeed pretty linear, but I must admit that Classic's level design is a bit more competent than I expected.
Though, the thing that irks me most is the plot. Mostly, how it relates to Sonic Mania. The Phantom Ruby is given a ton of different qualities, some of which don't feel like they mesh with Mana's plot and some that don't even mesh with Forces' own plot. It says a lot that fans can't seem to reach a consensus on how much of Mania even happened.
