WIP (Almost) Paper Mario

[VinnyVideo]

Makes sense. If you need any help proofreading the writing or coming up with character dialogue, I'd be happy to help. I like doing this kind of stuff.

Course clear! You got a card.

Very good, dear. I'll contact you in a few days then.
Thank you for your cooperation.

We continue our work on a Discord server. If anyone wnats to join the server to help with all kinds of discussions or future playtesting or composing(o Holy Lord, that's one heck of a job!), please contact me through PM. You see, I don't like the idea of publicly posting invite links.

I love these! I'm glad that they all have different faces and ears. Very distinct designs!

Thank you. Our little team tries to keep designs distinctive enough, and, with Albert's help, we already made a plenty. However, we'll not post every and each update here from now on -- only important ones.
If you wish to see most NPC designs, join our Discord server via personal request. We post some on official MFGG Discord occasionally, too.

This made me realize how many Paper Mario fangames are about the threat of the world ending.

Woah.

Beware the mighty Wariphant.

]UPD 27/08/18
(also because I'm not a native English speaker and I need someone to help me write dialogues). Please, help me out, dudes!(or dudettes or whatever you are)

Unless you've now found someone who is writing the dialogue, I'd like to be writing the dialogue. How hard can that be?

List of projects I eventually plan to finish after the indefinite hiatus is over, assuming I don't abruptly cancel them:

Spoiler

Mario's Rather Unusual Trilogy (Mario's slightly unusual Boss Rush (Original release completed, Godot port underway), Mario vs. Some Unusual Foes (On hold), Mario's VERY Unusual Final Frontier (On hold))
Sonic's Foray into Random/Unusual Zones (spin-off of Unusual Trilogy, on hold)
Super Mario Flashback: Really Good Edition (On hold)
Super Hilda DX (Development underway)

I am aware that all of this is very ambitious, for now I'm only working on two of these at infrequent intervals.

+ List of projects I'm helping out with in some small capacity during my hiatus:

Spoiler

Super Mario Bros Dimensions 2 (as a spriter, only for Mario's sprites)
MFGG Community Fangame Project 3 (as a spriter)
WordGirl ReWired (as a artist)

[NaviChan]

Development continues at somewhat unstable pace.
For everyone who isn't on our Discord: here's another WIP area that will make an appearance. It's a huge gorgeous cavity.
I call it Crysta, but official name is a subject to change.

Just to stir up interest a bit I want to share few characters we made together with Albert. Spoilers ahoy:

Just a tip, try using the image links from discord instead of uploading it to somewhere else..

July 2019, we're still going on and honestly not even close to a solid finished engine but we do have loads of content, ohboy. PM me if you want to help out with Unity C# coding, Mecanim-based animation, music and/or join our discord where all concepts and updates are posted.

Dearie, dearie me!

[NaviChan]

It was a tough month. For me it felt more like a year. Game development took a recess, and now I'd like to explain why it did and why it can't be continued just yet.

I lost my primary job, was forced to sell my old pc and got kicked out of my rented apartment -- all in a span of two weeks. I had no place to go to. Weather was quite harsh, and I ended up in a hospital with severe damage to my lungs. After I got out, I was forced to make my living through hard manual labor. Thanks to my new job I got a nice, cozy shelter to spend nights in, but, sadly, I do not have a PC anymore, and I barely get enough money for food and medication. My health worsens by the day, but I don't have any choice, at least, for now.

Fortunately, I made a backup of most game files, so, as soon as I'll get my hands on a PC, I'll continue to work on the game. My country is quite poor, so that's... Really not soon. Maybe in a year. Sorry, guys. I promise that I'll be back.

Sincerely, Navi.

Dearie, dearie me!

I'm really sorry to hear that. I hope your situation improves as quickly as it can so you can return to a state of good health and comfort. Best wishes to you.

Wow, this awesome!

If I could make a suggestion: maybe add more saturation and brightness to the colors? The Paper Mario series is known for having vivid and vibrant colors. That'll definitely make it look a lot better.

[VinnyVideo]

@NaviChan Thanks for the update. It sounds like you've been through some rough times lately. I think things will get better soon, and I'm hoping you'll be able to keep working on this!

Give me a buzz if you'd like to chat.

Course clear! You got a card.

They can't right now.

Navi here! After all this time I have a new update.
This project was resurrected around February and kept alive since then. I had to downgrade graphics a bit(my new PC is pretty crappy so per-pixel lighting and detailed world are out of the question), but it's still pretty enough!
We got a load of new characters by now(I lost count after one hundred haha) and more concrete plans about how the development will work from now on(i estimate that it will take at least until autumn 2021, and that's only if we can get enough help during winter).

While doing that I realized, that a TTYD knockoff will be nearly not enough, so we redesigned a lot of mechanics from the ground up. This may be a little bit unexpected, yet from all things we could remove from Paper Mario fangame to make it stand out more, we removed... Mario!

Captain Toad comes with their own unique moveset I'm polishing for weeks by now. Yeah, new moves, new upgrades and many annoyed Toad noises is just what we needed! Also there will be a lot of little touches like, for instance, tiny jumps they make here and there, appropriate slope behavior, chaining your cliffjumps with dashes and even more!

Battle system development, on the other hand, got kinda postponed to September, since we are still not sure about how partners will work, although I can tell by now that battle system will revolve around player juggling status effects and chaining attacks.

That's all, folks. Stay tuned, Ill update this thread around August or September. Also you can contact me here or via discord if you wanna come and hang out on our server and watch every little thing we draw/compose/code in.

Dearie, dearie me!
