If there is a competition going on, the creator of the comp could post in the announcements channel that the competition is going on.

If the person isn't available/online, then a staff member could do it instead.

mfgg in the future should automate competitions? last time's winner can submit a theme at any time and come compo day, if the theme has been submitted, auto-post the comp

If you're starting a competition, it's always good to give it some love! The MFGG Twitter and the Discord announcements channel are good starting points.

Both competition starters and staff can (and should) play a role in actively promoting competitions and events.

I already stated my opinions on giving non-staff members announcement permissions on Discord (definitely against it), but I am in favor of more ways to promote competitions and I think the idea HD brought up sounds pretty cool. I think more recognition for winners is the best way to boost competition activity since nobody cares that much about badges anymore and even with badges the actual entries are mostly buried and lost to the public.
