I've been playing through Firestyle's games recently, something that I do at least once a year. I played and beaten Super Mario and the Sacred Bells and Kirby Invaders from the Dark, and I'm planning to do Super Mario Pearls of Wisdom at some point. These fangames hold a special place in my heart, for being some of the earliest fangames I've ever played and serving as great influence for my games (especially the bosses). They don't seem very polished by today's standards, but I really love how the fangames feel like they just want to be simple, pure fun that don't take themselves too seriously, which is something that made me also enjoy some of the old fangames. I don't know if Firestyle is still making games (I think he started doing original games), but I'd love it if he decides to comes back and make one more fangame.

Have any of you played Firestyle's games? If so, what do you think about them?

I've played Sacred Bells and Pearls of Wisdom, and they were some of my favorite fan games. Back then I thought they were amazingly professional, but looking back on them you're right that they feel very much like fan games. I think that makes me enjoy them just as much but in a different way though. You could tell it was just the mind of some Nintendo fan making whatever he wanted to see in a Mario game.

As an unimportant side note, Pearls of Wisdom always makes me crave the corn chips and cheese dip from Chilli's, my guilty pleasure food. In middle school I missed a class trip because of a dentist appointment, and while I was bored at home I played that game all day and my mom brought home the chips and dip from Chilli's. This is actually making me really hungry.
