Let us see ban reasons on a banned user's profile or even go back to showing us warnings like on ipb. More Transparency is always a good thing

Even then, though, some people could use/abuse this just to bring up drama from the past. This is most likely better to keep for staff-only, despite it being "a good thing".

Honestly I don't think warns should be public but MFGG treats warnings a some kind of score system which is weird. A warning is an attempt to work w/ a member to resolve issues. An exception to warns being public should be if an issue is clearly something that needs to be addressed as a community- in which case yeah I'd put that in the news topic and not really try and call out anyone specific.

Do staff get upset when people respond to warns and try and work them out? Actually I think the warn system is kinda automated and you don't really have an avenue of contact with the staff iirc- that should be fixed.

Bans absolutely should be public though as they affect the entire community.

Seems rather unnecessary though. The public warn log always felt like public shaming to me and bans really don't necessitate public discussions every time.

Nah, people on MFGG would joke about it innocently. There really wasn't ever any malicious shaming from what I remember.

Regardless of how the warning system works, I do believe keeping them private is for the members benefit. However, if a member wants to make their warn public- they have every right to do so.

I personally have no issues if a member wants to discuss or dispute a warn with me. That's why we have a mod appeal channel on the discord now, although people there tend to just sit down and take it usually.

On the flipside though I also don't want people flooding to me to have their ban revoked because they think I'm the "merciful one" (lol), especially when I wasn't involved at all in the decision.

Other staff might have issues with threads discussing warns or bans but as long as it stays perfectly civil I have no issues. If a thread discussing someone's warn or ban for flaming happens to devolve into flaming itself, for example, it's just a bad look for everyone involved.

I see some problems with making warn/ban logs public. In the past we've actually had some members boast about getting warned/banned a lot - for them, making this list was almost a badge of honor. Also, in this era of "callout culture", I could imagine a scenario where making these public could expose a member to harassment.

Laughing about an ancient warn log for IPB isn't treated like some badge of honor, that's all they are doing: laughing at their younger selves.

Having a public warn and ban log might have some risks, but it's worth it considering how tainted the community and staff relations are. To be able to have transparency and hold staff accountable if they did something wrong, or to hold the member accountable for ignoring warnings from staff and making the same mistakes. I think it would be mutually beneficial in a lot of ways.

That's arguable. The current staff in my eyes is doing better when it comes to both transparency and making important changes.

I mean, sure, that's undeniable. Doesn't mean every member on MFGG will handle it well.

Besides that, though, the people who actually get banned might not want it to be made public and I can't imagine staff wants facilitate a discussion for every ban if the banned member's friends don't like it.

I think as long as we can freely ask about it in the discord or w/e I'm sure it's fine. That's just what I do.

I think that both sides have strong arguments regarding public warn logs and bans but I understand why you wouldn't want this. Personally I'm for it, I think having the information accessible reduces confusion and offers more transparency between staff and the community.

Warns are supposed to be warns, putting them in a public log would make them feel like a punishment just like happy heart did. It's also kinda like public shaming as Vert said.

I'm 100% fine with including ban reasons on the user's profile tho.

I don't think warning should be public for the same reason as Mors. As for bans, I'm kind of on the fence about it. I think it could be OK to see the actual reason for the ban so it can be discussed if need be, but at the same time I can see why people wouldn't want their bans to be public since it can be seen as a "shame log," for lack of a better term, and can possibly make it harder for members to better themselves. Maybe we could have bans be visible for a certain amount of time before they become hidden, if that's possible? Regardless, I think either way has its drawbacks and its benefits so I'd be OK with either.

Bring back these cool little icons at the bottom of a member's profile for their warn log.
