It seems that in order for a topic to become classified as a hot/popular one, it needs to have more than a certain number of views (looks to be around a thousand). It's a rather small number, which leads to almost every topic set on fire, even if they only received few to no replies! In the phpBB forums (the forum software we used before our current one, MyBB) a hot topic must have more than a certain number of posts (I think it was at least 2 pages worth). I think it would work better if we made it work like in phpBB. Is that possible? I put up a poll to see what everybody thinks.
Poll: How should a topic be classified as hot? You do not have permission to vote in this poll. |

Agreed. Posts are far more indicative of a hot topic than views are. Also, you can easily farm views to make something a hot topic, but you can't really farm posts at that rate or it would be considered spamming/flooding. Considering that Guests can also impact views and that posts are inherently outnumbered by views, choosing posts to constitute a hot topic would make them rarer and thus more meaningful.

I 100% agree.
I just changed the setting so that hot topics now require 50 replies (the current number) OR 5,000 views (the old minimum was 1,000). We can adjust this as needed. Course clear! You got a card.
