How did you discover MFGG?

My friend Jinpen (who posted some artwork on these boards, but is no longer active, also permabanned from the other boards) was a friend of mine who made sprite comics with me. He had his own website and I was a "staff member" although I don't remember actually contributing much to his website, besides an Easter post one time. We would have group AIM chats and he would talk about MFGG. He was a penguin in a military costume. A general, possibly. He liked Cheap Trick, and was very Japanese. 

I observed the forums, and decided to join after noticing it was the dominant hot spot, for art, character creation, friendly art exchange, pop culture fascination, especially videogames and Mario. (which was the sprite comic community back in the day). The users were fun and delightful and cool and lots of events to occur. 

How and why did you discover MFGG? Were you looking for it, or did it find you?

Good question! I think I discovered it through the YoYoGames sandbox where various Mario games made with Game Maker were hosted, but I'm not sure.

I don't remember exactly when I first discovered MFGG, it was a long time ago. Perhaps it was from a Google search or a YouTube video about Mario fangames to download (or play online with Flash).

What I do remember is that there were two Brazilian websites called Baixaki and Superdownloads which I visited back then to download programs and games for Windows XP. Some Mario fangames on MFGG I found first on these two websites, I had a good time playing on my old computer for hours

It didn't exist when I was looking for it. It magically turned into MFGG from Bowser Tech when I checked on the forums one day.

You know, I don't even remember. I'm pretty sure I just saw MFGG credited in a sprite movie on Newgrounds or something.

I was still pretty new to the internet back then. You could say it was one of the first sites I discovered.

I first discovered MFGG in August 2007! I'd been checking out some random guides on GameFAQs, and I stumbled upon a Mario Series Character Guide that mentioned a ROM hack called Mario Adventure. This piqued my interest, and I did some Googling around for that game. I also stumbled upon a site that hosted a lot of Mario fangames, including Super Mario Adventure. One of these games had a Readme file mentioning an interesting-sounding site called MFGG. More Googling ensued, and I eventually found my way to MFGG. I downloaded lots of games and libs and was a happy me.

I also discovered game-making tools (especially Game Maker 7) and started messing around with them. In 2008, I finally made an account on the MFGG mainsite once I had a fangame project that was ready to share with a wider audience. I wasn't too active on the community side of MFGG until 2009 or 2010, but since then I've checked MFGG just about every day.

I discovered MFGG around 2007, I was 12 years old and was an absolute gamer and artist. I was fascinated with video game sprites/sprite sheets. it was a layout to how the animation is broken down that really intrigued me It felt like I looking at the secrets of how a game is made. So I tried to make my own sprites, and it went horrible, I was creating it on MS paint using the track pad and I kept trying and failing until I finally got accepted on the website and I was so dang excited as a child. I was hoping it would end up in a Newgrounds animation so I could get credited. 

I became insanely active on the Art Board offering gift art every time I taught myself something new on photoshop and was always shocked on how people interpreted and drew my character. Met a few artist on here that I was inspired by and got to message them directly and ask how to execute certain things, and I got a lot of help. I was really ahead in animation and illustration by the time I got to high school. 

fast forward, I've gotten my animation nominated in Film festivals, won awards broadcasting on PBS, and my most proud achievement. getting front paged on Newgrounds

its insane to think my creativity as a kid really got nurtured through these forums.

I discovered it while looking for sprites for my Super Mario project (currently deleted as I prepare a FNAF fangame about Nintendo World), I think I remember

new in the web, but not in the Mario fan´s universe

It's great to hear when MFGG has a direct positive long-term effect on people's lives and careers - I know it has for me. I think you and I got our starts the same way - started at SFGHQ and then migrated over to Bowser Tech (turned into MFGG)?

I believe some also migrated over from a Donkey Kong fan website to MFGG, but I forget the name of it.
