I'm not saying I don't believe you didn't know, I'm just concerned if you really didn't know.

Maybe I just forgot about it, because I usually say "it" for everything else without gender. I'm just not used to say it that's all. Don't worry too much about it.

Oh yes, the good ol' "singular they" debate. Traditionally, in the English language, "they" has usually been a plural pronoun, but in recent years there's been more tolerance for the use of "they" as a singular pronoun when the antecedent's gender is uncertain (or in the case of some intersex/nonbinary people who don't like such pronouns).

Referring to other humans as "it" sounds awkward (and maybe not especially nice). The only time I've seen humans referred to as an "it" is in the case of babies, and I haven't even seen that in a long time.

In the post-Split era, I've never received a report of anyone being sexually harassed, but if anyone is saying things that make you uncomfortable, be sure to speak up - contact an admin or hit the report button.

This was super rampant back in the day, I actually made a comic about it that I wish I could find of a bunch of male MFGG members being all social in "club MFGG", then a girl walks in and the members are all "WOW it's one of those 'fee-males' I've heard about!" "she's mine!!!" and chase her out the door.

That's basically what used to happen and resulted in a lot of new members who divulged that they were females being scared off coming back to the website again.

Do you think you could post this comic, if you haven't already?
List of projects I eventually plan to finish after the indefinite hiatus is over, assuming I don't abruptly cancel them:
[+]Spoiler
Mario's Rather Unusual Trilogy (Mario's slightly unusual Boss Rush (Completed), Mario vs. Some Unusual Foes (In development), Mario's VERY Unusual Final Frontier (In development))
Sonic's Foray into Random/Unusual Zones (spin-off of Unusual Trilogy, in development)
Angry Birds Slingshot Frenzy (In development)
Super Mario Flashback: Really Good Edition (In development)
Super Hilda DX (In only conceptual phase)

Yes, I am aware that I have about 6 or so fangame projects currently in development at the same time. And yes, I am also aware that all of this is very ambitious.
+ List of projects I'm helping out with in some small capacity during my hiatus:
[+]Spoiler
Super Mario Bros Dimensions 2 (as a spriter, only for Mario's sprites)
MFGG Community Fangame Project 3 (as a spriter)
WordGirl ReWired (as a artist)

This is false, "singular they" has been acceptable since Shakespeare's time, it's a relatively recent trend (recent as in ~100 years) that people have been claiming it isn't, and those people are now receiving pushback.

If you found someone's wallet you'd check their ID to see who they are so you can give it back to them.
And you'd find you just used singular they three times without thinking about it.

is this topic about the "singular they debate" or about female members in MFGG?

its about whatever the conversation happens to be as it naturally evolves. not our fault that vinny is usually wrong and needs to be corrected on things that are common knowledge.

Usually? It's not like he's wrong all the time. Why are you saying that?

Seems a few people radically misunderstood my post.

I Wrote:Traditionally, in the English language, "they" has usually been a plural pronoun, but in recent years there's been more tolerance for the use of "they" as a singular pronoun when the antecedent's gender is uncertain...

The Wikipedia article Wrote:Though it is commonly employed in everyday English, it has been the target of criticism since the late 19th century.
I never said that the singular they is a recent invention, but it is true that for centuries, some grammarians have recommended against its use. Two of the most-cited "authorities" on grammar and usage in American English, the Associated Press Stylebook and the Chicago Manual of Style, recommend rewriting to avoid the singular they when possible.

Personally, I don't really mind the use of the singular they. It's been a part of the common lexicon for many years, and unlike most grammatically-questioned constructions, it serves a valid purpose that is not easily substituted.

@Kritter I'm pretty sure I've seen that comic before, although I can't recall where to find it either. I'm glad we don't have that problem on MFGG these days (and if we do, someone definitely needs to bring that to my attention!).

Dang, I searched through the whole thread and not a single phone number was listed. Well, hit up my inbox ladies. In all seriousness, I thought this was only a problem like 10+ years ago on forums. People don't harass alleged females still do they?

My first forum I believe I was 16 when I joined. Here I am 10 years later. I just figured that's something that would grow out with age, assuming everyone on the forum gets older as well.

A lot of the people on MFGG aren't the same as they were when you used to be on here, unfortunately. Nonetheless, harassment isn't tied to age - people can be weird creeps regardless of how old they are.
