For some reason the MFGG site (not the forums) are giving database errors despite they not running in MyBB.

You pretty much answered your own question. Each piece of MFGG - the mainsite, the forums, the Wiki, both archives, and the high scores system - runs on a different MySQL database. Other than running on the same server, these databases are independent of one another. So if there's a problem with part of the mainsite database, it won't affect the forums.

Solving this database error proved to be trickier than expected, but everything should be fixed now.
