Locking dissent is power abuse

Plain as day, lock feedback you don't like is power abuse. It sucks you don't think it's going to go anywhere because you're stubborn but maybe let the members discuss how bad a job you're doing and ignore it if it bothers you so much?

I've said this in both the previous thread and in the Discord server a couple of times. Considering how much of an issue this was we need to first discuss it with the rest of the staff and come to a conclusion. We can't just do what you say without any consideration because otherwise there would be no point of a staff existing. We can't really act our own either for obvious reasons. And yes, I do realize that 1 week is a very long time, but you guys should realize that stuff like staff resignations, holidays etc prevented us from doing that and it's already high on our priority list.

And it's not that we are silencing feedback or something. I myself actually agree that Stir should be unbanned, but since we have to discuss it first constantly complaining about the same exact thing here will not accomplish anything. I mean, this is like what, the 5th time I had to explain the same thing?

Just wait until we come to a conclusion which will probably happen today since it seems like most of the staff is free. And as Vinny said don't open threads appealing others' bans lol

I'm giving you the context of why it's not power abuse, but if you still disagree you are free to give your reasons why, in a civil manner of course.

We strive to make MFGG a fair and equitable environment for everyone. We're always happy to listen if you have a concern or complaint, regardless of whether your views align with most of the staff or members. However, there's little to be gained from long, public debates about someone else's ban, and there's a reason that most online communities impose limitations on this sort of topic.

In the grand scheme of things, we don't have a lot of power - we're the leaders of a small Mario fansite with a forum that gets approximately 50 registered visitors per day. We're not going to throw you in jail or kick you out of school if you get in trouble here, and we won't take away your job or your home or your health insurance if you say something we disagree with. Nobody's earning their livelihood from this, and MFGG isn't the only way to stay in touch with people. We're just a little place to talk about games and other stuff, a place run by humans who are doing their best to contribute to this community in their free time.

Getting a warning or a locked topic on is hardly the end of the world. Even if you get banned for a while, you'll invariably get a second chance if you demonstrate that you've changed your ways. I don't mean to sound dismissive of people's concerns - it's just important to keep things in perspective.

If nobody had disputed Stir's ban, then he would have been permad for sure, Mors. No discussion would be happening at all.

So maybe don't tell people not to dispute other members' bans especially after such a problematic example for why they should is still unresolved.

The minute Cruise admitted that he banned without investigating the issue and Diantha confirmed that Stir wasn't responsible for her disappearance, Stir should not have been banned anymore.

This stuff about "oh we need time to discuss it and we just lost all our staff" shouldn't even be a concern. The ban was wrong and letting Vinny try to force some retroactive ban is even worse.

A week to unban someone who shouldn't have been banned is way too long.

hey if we're going to discuss the ban, maybe we can unlock the thread dedicated to it? All I want out of this thread is an apology for that lock and a commitment to not abuse locking power in the future. I know I can't always get what I want though, so I mean, sure, let's just use my thread for what the other thread was for if you want

I know this post is a bit off topic but why can't you? Do only admins have the power to ban and unban people on this site or something?

Unbans, in general, are stuff that should be discussed with others first, one staff member might know something about a member another one might not know.

That being said, this one was kind of a special situation too. I mean it did cause us to lose several staff members so we took it a bit more seriously than usual. There were also some staff members with differing opinions on the situation so we had to come to an agreement there.

But anyways, we actually lifted the ban after having a discussion about it. We will try to make sure that mistakes like this won't happen to anyone else in the future.

My opinion on this matter is that instead of spilling drama from the Discord all over the forums, everyone should work together on making MFGG a better place for the years to come.
