I've been listening to a lot of gypsy jazz as of late. It's very folksy in sound and I admit it's probably not a lot of people's cup of tea, but some of it is very reminiscent of music in early 2000s RPGs like Chrono Cross, etc (one of the Raphael Fays versions of Douce Ambiance comes to mind).

A couple of suggestions

• Pretty much anything by La Orquesta Inestable. They also have a fun cover of "Baby on Board" from The Simpsons
  
• Les Gosses de la Rue has a few fun songs. Their version of "Noto Swing" sounds like something straight out of Angry Birds. They also have a really fun version of "For Sephora"
  
• "The Gipsy Kid" by Jimmy Rosenberg is surprisingly smooth and slick for a song in this genre. Jimmy's other work is pretty rad too. Unfortunately, he's no longer making music as he's retired due to struggling with drug addiction
  
• Literally anything by Joscho Stephan. The man is a virtuoso. The song that sold me on him was "Chica"
  
• And of course, Django Reinhardt. The genre started with him and it's gone from him making a few songs of his own to an entire movement where artists, songs, and entire discographies have come together to build a greater mythology surrounding him. Any song by him, named after him, or by a group named for him is bound to be worth a listen

Carpet Crawlers - Genesis (1974)

This song actually unimpressed me at first - before I got into Genesis - and I didn't revisit it until I listened to the album it's from in full. There's a few little details I like in the studio version that helps elevate it for me, some being Steve Hackett's guitar in the background and Phil Collins' drums gradually 'moving closer' to the listener by reducing the reverb on them. Peter Gabriel's delivery of the lyrics (as well as some lines of the lyrics themselves, such as the chorus in particular) alongside the guitar and melancholy chords create a strong sense of yearning. Definitely my favorite song from an already great album.
