A few days ago, I fired up GameMaker 8.1, and it gave me a message saying that my license can't be validated. Because of this, it's running as the lite version, instead of the standard (AKA pro) version. Normally, this would happen if I'm not connected to the Internet for a while. However, my Internet connection has never been knocked out lately this time. I opened it up about every day since then, and it continues to give me that message.

Is there any way to fix this? The message said that I could manually download the license verification file from the YoYoGames website, but I'm not really sure about that. I looked through the help section of said website, and I couldn't find anything related to the problem I'm currently having. Did YoYoGames stop supporting GameMaker 8.1 for good? If that's the case I guess I could either port any games to Game Maker 8.0 (though, I wouldn't be able to use the pro features, but the watermark shouldn't be there) or GameMaker: Studio 1 (I can still use that program's standard version, but it lacks a few features like MIDI support).

YYG has pretty much stopped supporting "legacy" versions of GM. They really want to push people onto their newest version - which offers some new features and a really annoying and expensive subscription model.

You can try opening a helpdesk ticket with YYG, though I suspect they won't verify GM 8.1 licenses anymore.

(Of course, a lot of people would try another kind of "workaround" for this problem.)
