MFGG Awards used to be one of MFGG's biggest events of the year. A long-standing tradition in our community, MFGG Awards happened every year from 2004 to 2020. A lot of members looked forward to it every year.
However, the 2020 MFGG Awards was badly bungled, and we didn't have an MFGG Awards in 2021 and 2022.
Does anyone want to see MFGG Awards happen in early January for things we made in 2023? Would anyone be disappointed if MFGG Awards didn't happen?
If MFGG Awards doesn't happen, I thought it would be cool to choose a Game of the Month for every month in 2023 and give each of those games a short write-up and give their creators a GOTM badge. We've (sadly) gotten out of the habit of doing the Game of the Month every month, and I think the GOTM could be a cool thing to revive.
GOTM topics were usually made by one of the QC staffers, who made sure that the best games on MFGG got some kind of special recognition. Of course, it's also true that sometimes staff might overlook a popular game, which is why we also had formal recognition of "community picks" in the form of MFGG Awards and competition voting.
Any thoughts?
