Super Mario Journey is a Mario fan game I'm currently trying to make where you get to play as Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi (The latter 2 being unlockable characters). Each character will have their own unique abilities, like in Mario 2 and 3D world, and special ability that can be made with the press of a button (IE Wario and his charge attack). The game itself will follow a similar formula to most other Mario games. The Art-style will look as if it were drawn as a modern cartoon, with 3d sprites with a 2d look to them. I am currently working on this game by myself and would really appreciate any suggestions. If you want to help and team up with me to help make this game possible, send me a private message and I'll write back as soon as possible. See you next time! Wink

Started:

-Spritework

Ideas:

-Area themes (Industrial/Factory, Wild Western, Tribal Village, Crystal Mountains, An area I'd like to call "Strange and Random")
-Bosses (Mega Koopa, Pathmaster, Ted Toad [More on why Mario's battling a toad in the game], Chap Chap)
-Items and blocks (Quick boots, Slow Down Block, Grav-swap Block, Mario Builder Hammer, Magma Mushroom)

*Update: 2/21/17*
I understand it's been a while and I'm sorry. I came to terms with the fact that I can't add textures in blender (No matter how hard I try), so I'll be using the Hello Mario Engine for Gamemaker with custom 2d sprites. I'm actually a little disappointed I couldn't figure it out. Don't fret though, I'll try to give an idea of the artstyle soon. Thanks for the patience.

Borrowing an feature from an official game doesn't make the fangame look unique. Try making something different that no one has done before.

Right, my bad, I'll change that so that it doesn't seem like I'm trying steal from Nintendo or something like that.

As for that second part, I am brainstorming ideas for items, blocks, and enemies. One block idea I have is a grav-reverse block, where the gravity flips and the sky becomes a deathzone. If you make it through, you get a star coin, item, or (and I'm not sure if I'll actually add them) a warp zone. I'm also thinking of new areas as well, like a town where it looks like a village of koopas. Sure, they aren't ground breaking, but it's a start. Remember, this is still in the concept stage and I could add a new item or enemy during the development.

Also, to anyone else seeing this post, please suggest a better name than "Super Mario Journey". I'm terrible with names, and I can't use the original title I wanted, "Super Mario Adventures", because I found out about the comic and didn't want people to get confused.

Fangames with original art styles are nice to see. Do you have any screenshots or sprites you could share?

Reminds me of Midas Machine gameplay-wise, but that's not at all a bad thing! I am intrigued.

Should this be in Developer Discussion instead of Showcase, though?

Not yet, sadly. I'm trying to create Mario, but I don't how exactly to add textures to models in blender. To give you a rough idea of what I'm trying to make, think of what the SMW Mario would look like in 3D and then mix that with the modern Mario 3D model.

Just gonna throw out that it'll be kind of hard to find people who will want to team up for your project without work to show (e.g. screenshots)

Words are fine, but generally people will feel more inclined if/when they see progress.

Just gave an update on the games proggress. Sad to say I have to take a few steps back in the Dev cycle and start back at the beggining.
