The trainer battles look like that, but from what I recall (I'll watch it again), wild battles go straight to "Toss the ball". I mean, I hope I'm wrong, but I recall there being a Pidgey encounter that didn't give an attack option.
EDIT- Just rewatched it. Theres a cutaway before the battle options show up, then it goes to the ball toss thing, so maybe they skipped it, I hope so anyways.

That said, now that I know this is a spinoff and that the next main game is in the works, I'm less bothered by the changes, although I find it kinda odd that they announced that the next main game is in the works last year at E3 if they most likely won't be showing it until early 2019 at the earliest (since that may interfere with Lets Go sales).
