Let's not talk about the quality of the games. Let's just talk about the aesthetic.
Let's also ignore the spin-offs and focus on the mainline titles, whether it be 2D or 3D.

For the best looking one, I gotta say there's multiple contenders for me.
I would say Sunshine takes the cake. Despite the low-res repetitive texturing, they really managed to capture a vibe that is just extremely pleasant to look at, and kind of makes you wish you were really on the island taking a vacation.

Odyssey also looks really good, with its many different vibrant artstyles. I also have a soft spot for SMB3 on the NES.

For the worst looking one, it's quite easily NSMBWii for me, with only NSMB2 coming close.
Washed out colors, ugly color palettes and everything using the same plastic looking material makes for an incredibly unaesthetic game.

A few days ago I was thinking about some games available only on Nintendo Switch. One of these games was the Game Builder Garage, which is basically Nintendo's version of Scratch, except instead of using blocks, you use Nodon to program the code. It's impressive how many things you can do even with the 512 Nodon limit.

As for me, I didn't play the game myself, for the reason that I don't have a Nintendo Switch (I could emulate it, but that's another story). All I know about the game is from the r/GameBuilderGarage subreddit and YouTube videos. So, did anyone have memories of it, making some games or something?

As we played various games on consoles and computers over the years, we get an idea of what games to like and dislike. The Mario franchise is one of most well-known and loved, but it isn't the only franchise to explore.

For me, besides Mario, I love the Plants vs. Zombies franchise, mainly because it's a different format of tower defense, replayability is very strong, there's multiple ways to beat a level, and it's mod-friendly. I played both the PVZ1 and PVZ2 (I didn't have the opportunity to play the PVZ Adventures).

Another franchise that I love is the Bomberman franchise, the battle mode is the main factor, it's a great opportunity to play with a friend because of the simplicity of game mechanics. The arcade ones are fun to play but they are more obscure compared to the console ones.

So, besides Mario, what are your favorite video game franchises?

Out of all the online "events" I have been apart of, especially surrounded by Mario and Nintendo folks, something that surprises me (being big fans of the original Mario games), is I have never played an online version of the "battle mode" version of Mario Bros. (the arcade game, not Super Mario Bros.). I have fond memories of playing this on Super Mario Bros. 3 (mostly All-Stars, its on the NES version too, right?) and also just regular Mario Bros. on my Super Mario Advance game (it was ported as an extra on all the Super Mario Advance games). But seems to me, out of all the years I have been on the internet, I have never played "battle mode" Mario Bros. online. Have you? How did you play it? Where did you play it? Assuming I could play it on ZSNES or something similar, but I have never played online emulator multiplayer before.

The Advance version also can hold 4 players at a time, that seems like too much for me!

Lastly, if I just want to play the normal mode, 1-player what is the best port for that? The Advance versions? Also what about the original Donkey Kong?

EDIT: Does the Switch versions allow online multiplayer? Also I don't own a Switch right now, assuming those are actually the best ports of both games.

I just played Bubsy for the first time via Nintendo Switch Online. All I can say is just … wow. It is certainly one of the games of all time. Nearly everything made me say "what?" in the first few minutes. Sure, you got the usual camera and control issues, but there's much more. Why did that gumball machine just kill me? Why is ok to go into the first pipe, but not the others? Why are the treetops bouncy? Why is the middle part of the treetops not bouncy? Why did the screen turn upside down for a second? Why did Bubsy become a silhouette? Why is there fall damage? Why did I get shot out of a mountain, roll down it, and tumble right into an enemy?

When you start the level you hear a voice clip of Bubsy saying "What could possibly go wrong?". Pretty much everything. Up until know I thought the internet was just exaggerating for comedic effect.

Anyways, who's looking forward to the new 4D game?

For me, I like SMBW because is beautiful, both visuals and music, and I like the powerups and the levels (special of the world 4, the dessert world), I like the desings of this and the talking flowers (but I thouhgt there more than I remember), but god, the special levels, this is the hell, especially for me the special levels of world 2 and petal islands, I took 1 year to complete the world 2 special level... but this is a good thing, because is more exiting when you complete it.
But, for the rest, I like SMBW... You too?

A relatively new Mario fangame that is making the rounds on YouTube - surprised I didn't see anything here about it yet, so I thought I'd share.

Super Mario Bros. 1 Remastered

Super Mario Bros. 1 Remastered GitHub Link

It includes SMB1, SMB2J (The Lost Levels), All-Night Nippon, and Super Mario Bros. Special - plus Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. It's more of an engine than just a game, because it has a full level editor and supports skins (which it calls resource packs), custom characters, and level packs. It's like a new "Super Mario Multiverse" or Super Mario Bros. X. It's pretty cool. Thought the good folks here would like to hear about it. (I'm not involved in the making of the game or anything, just a player.)

Here you can find the resource packs: SMB1R on GameBanana

Here you can find levels: SMB1R Levels on LevelShareSquare

I keep putting the 1 in the name and abbreviations because I picked that up somewhere, but I'm not sure if the 1 is really in the title or not. Sorry for the confusion.
