Hey. It's been a while since I've last posted, but this is something really important I needed to ask because I've been stuck on this for a while now.
I'm currently working on a fangame, which is essentially an Arcade-faithful, prequel game to the original NES Super Mario Brothers: Super Princess Peach: The Prince Rescue. As for the point of the game itself right away, the premise here is similar to SMB, where Prince Haru (Prince Blossom in this game) gets kidnapped by Bowser, and leaving his Flower Kingdom in ruin, leaving Peach to rescue him and save the Kingdom and save the day.
The problem is, I'm trying to develop music for the game itself, but I'm trying to make it faithful to the original 80's Nintendo Arcade Cabinets, meaning it would sound exactly like it would on the real, actual hardware. In fact, the entire game is gonna be faithful to the arcade cabinets, meaning that literally everything, from the programming and graphics, to the sounds/music and gameplay, will work and be faithfully restricted to exactly how it would function on the real, actual hardware.
Here's my issue: I'm currently using BeepBox to develop any music that had not already been "premade" for the game itself, meaning any other music available I'm downloading off of sites like KHInsider otherwise. The problem here is that I can't ever seem to quite figure out how to make the instruments sound exactly like that on the real hardware, from the stage music, to the fanfare such as completing one game (level) of Donkey Kong. I've tried many things, from tweaking the triangle waves, to trying to mess with the Expert FM settings, and even trying out entirely different waves. To this day, nothing has worked for me.
Right now, I really need some help trying to figure out how to make the instruments sound like that in Donkey Kong. What exactly would I need to do with the instruments in order to get them to sound correct? If BeepBox simply won't work, what other programs could I use, and what would I need to do on those programs to get them correct?
By the way, here's the BeepBox link and my song in case you need more context.
Thank you so much.
