Anyway, as always no promises, I just want to say I'm always reachable here, so before anybody gives away "my" project or announces it canceled, I'd like to be informed first via PM (that should give me an email notification).

I still want to see it through, it's just ambitious as hell, and so my usual working schedule on this game causes me to find more bugs than finish features.
I'm honestly not sure how any other developer could really help with it either, since Game Maker 7 is required as well as some super outdated version of Matt Thorson's Ogmo Editor and the thing is so badly documented and complex that even I keep forgetting what's where, not to mention it relies on some custom GM7 extensions that only I have.

A big problem with finishing the game proper is, that the first few worlds have so much ambition in it, and everything that is done in later worlds that doesn't live up to that just doesn't feel right. So I'd kinda still like to finish it, just it will take a LOT of time to do so and I'll need to cut some corners. I'm just not a teenager anymore.

Although, if somebody with time would somehow acquire a license for Game Maker 7, and contact me about it, I could show them the most important things. How about it @Mors?

As it turns out, I have skype, but it doesn't seem to work on my new laptop for some reason, which I wasn't aware of. I thought it was working this whole time and you haven't been on, I apologize if this has caused any trouble.

Ah that sucks a lot Sad If not Skype what else do you use these days?

I'm mainly on Discord, I'll PM you my name so we can add each other if you have it also.

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine - Mors - 01-08-2020

So I talked with @Guinea and got his blessings to port the game to later versions of Game Maker and finish the game, but I had to tweak some of the more outdated parts of the game, such as the title screen!

That looks awesome. Thank GOD the text was updated. The new text definitely fits the game a whole lot better. And hey, good on you for offering help on this project. If I had any knowledge about this kind of stuff, I would too, but... yeah. As of now, I'm just a mediocre sprite artist. Anywho, this game was already in great hands, and that holds true with you on the "team" now. I have hope that this game will get finished. Despite the minor flaws I've mentioned earlier in this thread, this is already one of, if not my favorite 2D Mario game ever.

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine - waluigi90 - 03-01-2020

When is the game coming out? Huh?

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine - HellJumper - 05-11-2020

I still check this thread weekly in case of any updates. You guys got anything to share on the game? Any news. I'm starved for news on this game. I really want to see it completed, as it's my favorite fangame of all time as of now, and it's still only in demo form.

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine - Denchick - 08-02-2020

not much, game isn't cancelled but it isn't the new dev's main project rn

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine - friendlinzh - 09-12-2020

very nice game,i can not wait to see it released!

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine - HellJumper - 01-08-2021

Dude, you really can't stress that enough, can you?

Considering Mors is very busy in his life (from what I can tell), I think it's better to just not spam the thread over and over again saying that you are dying to play it.

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine - chaoxys - 01-09-2021

May as well nip this in the bud now (thank you Vinny for reminding me to do this), but until further notice, Midas Machine is sadly canceled. Without anyone to finish programming, there isn't much I can do, and I don't want to leave people hanging onto the hopes that it'll one day pop back up, so yeah, I apologize as this is the last thing I wanted to have happen, but I'm afraid that it's out of my hands. Part of the issue that the level editor we were using no longer exists, so theres no way for people to work with the levels currently, and the engine for whatever reason no longer seems to work on my laptop, like, I can't even get the game to rum anymore.

I was going to write up a full script of all the levels and a description with pictures, but my hand slipped and I accidently closed the window after 6 hours of typing, and I really can't bring myself to type it up again, sorry. That said I'll at least give a quick summary of what was planned plot wise.

Anyways, if anyone has any general questions, ask away, that aside, I'll try and submit some of the sheets at some point. That said, if Mors still wants to work on this, I'm willing to chip in in any way I can, but yeah, I'm sorry for breaking this news, if I could have had it finished, please know that I would have.

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine - Q-Nova - 01-09-2021

I have many questions: What happened to Guinea? Did you lose contact with him again? If so, have you sent him a forum PM? He once said that he should receive an e-mail whenever he gets a PM. Did you lose the level editor and couldn't find it online? By engine, do you mean Game Maker? If that's the case, did Game Maker use to run in your laptop and now it couldn't work or are you talking about a new computer that cannot run that software no matter what?

I hope this game still has a chance; it's one of my most anticipated fangames!

Haven't heard from him in a while. As for the level editor, it's an old version of Ogmo that I can't find, and I don't think Mors had any luck either. I do have it on my old laptop, but my charging cable is broken on it so it's almost dead and I don't want to spend the money to get a new one. As for the GM thing, idk whats up with it. It worked for a while, then I went back and tried to us it again, and now it doesn't work.

The only chance it'll have is if Mors or someone else wants to take over on things. I'm still willing to lend a bit of a hand, but honestly, I've moved on to working on my indie game at this point since theres not much more I can do.

Well, I have done quite a bit already actually. I ported the game to GM8 (which wasn't that easy!), I tried to polish what was already there up and fix some issues, but unfortunately, things eventually came to a halt since I've been quite busy myself too.

I still don't want the project to go to waste, but at the same time... Yeaaaah, I can't really devote much time to it at all. Maybe at some point I can spend a month or two just to it just to get it out, but don't really expect that to happen anytime soon. Maybe later this year at best? I don't know, I'm already overwhelmed with projects as is.

And as for the level editor situation, that is a bit issue, but I'm pretty sure a solution can be found for that eventually.

Either way, my point is that I haven't fully given up myself yet. Not fully at least.

In any case, if anyone else wants to help too I'd be willing to work with others as well. Actually, in the past few months, I DID get some such offers, but it was by people who were clearly lacking any real game development experience or skill. Midas Machine's source is very complicated and there's quite a bit of bug fixing work left, so if you want to help make sure that you're at least competent in GameMaker 8.

And probably contact me about it first since I'd be able to tell if you'd be able to actually help us finish the game or not.

If you're still working on it, I'm willing to help if I'm able, but real life has been pretty demanding as of late. That said, most of the graphics and levels are basically finished (levels that aren't finished mainly just need enemies or specific objects placed in them). So yeah, let me know on Discord if you need help.

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine - VinnyVideo - 01-12-2021

I truly hope that some awesome person can get this project into a finished state! I think Midas Machine is the biggest fangame that MFGG has ever seen, and a finished Midas Machine would make a lot of people very, very happy - and would get a lot of new eyeballs on MFGG.

@chaoxys @Mors I suggest contacting @Guinea - I know he's busy, but maybe you could set up a chat (or just a few posts in this topic) to help get things rolling again.

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine - Amine Retro - 01-14-2021

i'm honestly surprised this hasn't been released a long time ago... being this close to completion and all.

Oh boo hoo. If somebody replying to a thread saying they're excited for a game is something that can be considered annoying, then ya'll must have pretty stress-free lives if that's something that's worthy of complaining about to you. They announced these games and gave us stuff to be excited about, and now they're gonna start complaining that somebody is that excited about it? Nonsensical. At what point did I say this should be prioritized over whatever they're doing in real life, or on another project? It was just getting very silent here, and I didn't want it to be forgotten about. I'm far from the only one who's replied to this thread without technically adding anything to the conversation. And I think calling my few posts on here (not in a row) spam is extremely hyperbolic. Just saying. So maybe actually use your head for a second before you start grand standing over something so silly.
