Posting here as a sign of life.
A lot of stuff has been going on at my job lately, which happens to be very heavy on software development (as I am a software developer), so I'm sure you all understand that after programming the whole day with overtime, the first thing I do when I get home, is not to turn on my PC to program some more (especially because the PC I have at work is 1000x better than the one I have at home ) However I am so happy to see these posts of you people, anticipating and waiting for this game, after all these years still. The majority of stuff that's still to do is bosses and story cutscenes, so ... sorry y'all. Hope to be able to show something again soon though.

Will the portion of the game playable in the demo be updated from the last one we got? Like, it's really good, but there are some things here and there that I believe could use some improving. Like, in that cutscene that takes place after the battle with Syrup where Mario and Luigi are falling, how Luigi just appears on the far right part of the screen, rather than walking from the far right of the screen. Just looks a bit unnatural. But that's just a nitpick. Another thing is that when jumping, the screen follows you up, when in the official games, the screen only moves up or down if Mario reaches a certain point that drags the screen up to reveal another part of the level. The problem with the screen following you when you jump, is that it sometimes hinders you view, and I don't know, it just feels a lot smoother when the screen stays in place when just hopping and bopping. Last thing. When bouncing off of mushroom platforms, I notice that to bounce super high, you have to hold the jump button down, rather than time it as you hit the platform. Personally, this just felt a bit off to me, especially when holding that little helper thingy that slows your descent. I, and many more people, even my friends that I've shown the demo, are more used to how the main games like New Super Mario Bros (DS) handles it, where to bounce super high, you have to press the button as you hit the platform. It's what a lot of people are used to, and adds a bit of a skill gap in a way. It's a win win. But still not a big deal.
Jumping feet first into hell isn't my job; making sure it's crowded when I get there is.

Thanks for that feedback, Helljumper. To answer some questions: yes the parts that you have already played in the demo can definitely change, and that is also why we do not release more demos with more finished worlds or something, because the more you've already played, the more tedious it would be to then having to replay everything over again from the start.
Those particular issues that you have highlighted have already been mentioned before, and there might be some tweaking, but considering the age of the engine itself, and how much of a maintenance effort it would be to change certain physics (think of all levels being designed around the existing physics), I'm not going to promise anything. But as both Chaoxys and I are endless perfectionists (which is also the reason why this thing is not yet finished), I'm also not going to say that I WON'T look into these things

I hate to be one to do this, but any updates at all? Will this even finish?

This looks fantastic. I remember this from years ago. How long has it been in development for?

Seriously though, can we even get at least a check-in after a half a year?

Quote:Unfortunately the programmer for Midas Machine seems to have disappeared (not in a fully literal sense, I still see him log onto his switch regularly so I know he's fine), so theres not much that can be done with the project at this point, so it's more or less dead I'm afraid. That said, it's kind of refreshing for me to actually be working on something new and original after having been dedicating myself to a Mario fangame for many years. But yeah, I do apologize as I know many people were looking forward to it. Trust me, I would have loved to have seen it completed.Apparently this was posted on Talkhaus by @chaoxys. How much work was left when Guinea disappeared? If it's not a lot I'd be willing to help to finish the game. I know this raises a few moral questions, but if Guinea suddenly started ghosting you then I suppose he doesn't really care much about the game at this point. I just really don't want to see this game get cancelled, I just want to see at least 1 great big scale fangame finished.

The main things left were setting up the final world maps, a handful of enemies, and cleaning up things here and there. The largest part that needs to be finished is the bosses. Their sheets are fully made and their battles planned out, but they aren't programmed in. If anyone wanted to finish it off, I'd be willing to help out in my free time, as I've said, the battle plans for bosses are finished, and theres only a few levels left to finish (mainly due to key elements like enemies missing from the engine currently).

Yeah sure that sounds doable. Do you use Discord? If so send me a DM there, my handle is Mors#3278. If not we can handle it via forum DMs too.

Well I still exist, I'm quite busy though. Are you no longer using Skype @chaoxys? Not been hearing anything from you for a while either. And since I was quite busy myself I didn't really want to push you on anything, as I'm mostly the one who's behind.
Anyway, as always no promises, I just want to say I'm always reachable here, so before anybody gives away "my" project or announces it canceled, I'd like to be informed first via PM (that should give me an email notification). I still want to see it through, it's just ambitious as hell, and so my usual working schedule on this game causes me to find more bugs than finish features. I'm honestly not sure how any other developer could really help with it either, since Game Maker 7 is required as well as some super outdated version of Matt Thorson's Ogmo Editor and the thing is so badly documented and complex that even I keep forgetting what's where, not to mention it relies on some custom GM7 extensions that only I have. A big problem with finishing the game proper is, that the first few worlds have so much ambition in it, and everything that is done in later worlds that doesn't live up to that just doesn't feel right. So I'd kinda still like to finish it, just it will take a LOT of time to do so and I'll need to cut some corners. I'm just not a teenager anymore. Although, if somebody with time would somehow acquire a license for Game Maker 7, and contact me about it, I could show them the most important things. How about it @Mors?

As it turns out, I have skype, but it doesn't seem to work on my new laptop for some reason, which I wasn't aware of. I thought it was working this whole time and you haven't been on, I apologize if this has caused any trouble.
