[Article] Burnout and Game Development - Yakibomb - 05-19-2020 https://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/314419/The_Fire_Fades_Dealing_with_the_scourge_of_burnout_in_game_dev.php In this article, several game developers report about suffering from "burnout", which is slang for working on a passion so much so that one forgets to take care of themselves along the way. This is my favorite quote from the article: “When it comes to burnout specifically, the real trick is to embed a belief that the more important a project is, the more important it is to take care of yourself along the way." [Holmes, p.2] In short, being self-aware by taking time to heal--by doing tasks like checking in with yourself, talking to friends, going out for a walk, and stuff like that--is essential while developing a game passionately. What about you? Have you ever been in burnout before, or have stories to tell about it? Do share! RE: [Article] Burnout and Game Development - Evil Yoshi Toes - 05-19-2020 This is something I experience with my own work a lot. Sometimes I get so invested in a project that I’m in my room drawing sometimes for 15 hours straight with no break every day for weeks and then I crash and burn and can’t pick up a pencil or think up anything creative for long periods of time, which is scary. It’s very important to pace yourself and give yourself breaks in order to maintain a steady and constant workflow. RE: [Article] Burnout and Game Development - Hyper - 05-19-2020 I get burned out after spending hours on graphics and I felt like I'm going nowhere. It is a good reason why a lot of my projects were canceled. But I will not cancel Regular Toad Game unless I died or something. In addition to that, I sometimes do a sick burnout in my car when I felt burnt out. But I don't do it often because I don't want to waste too much tire threads and ruining the clutch. |
