My friend said he was very confused with my game, Super Mario Holidays. I'm wondering if you guys feel the same way. You can check out my videos here:

Celestial New Years Eve Celebrations: (play without sound)

Tell me what you guys think and what I could do to make the game less confusing.

Alright so let me say what I think about this idea.

There is a hockey Mario power up which actually is a good concept, there are leaves that bounce you up when they are orange, leaf coins(?) which I guess are like Star Coins, some hockey enemies, and other powerups can combine to cause different effects, which is also a good concept.

I think what your friend meant about it being "confusing" was the craziness of the test levels, as they have so many objects in so many awkward places that it doesn't make sense.

And I know you said on Discord that the art are placeholders, but still, it's not good to look at. The movement of Mario doesn't seem like Mario either, like how he immediately changes his momentum like if he was Mega Man instead of naturally decelerating to turn around.

You have a good game concept, and I know your struggles as seen in your past threads, but you really need to make a plan for the game, like thinking about what kind of levels you should have, or maybe asking other members to help you out with things like the art, etc.

With that, that was I thought about this.
List of projects I eventually plan to finish after the indefinite hiatus is over, assuming I don't abruptly cancel them:
[+]Spoiler
Mario's Rather Unusual Trilogy (Mario's slightly unusual Boss Rush (Completed), Mario vs. Some Unusual Foes (In development), Mario's VERY Unusual Final Frontier (In development))
Sonic's Foray into Random/Unusual Zones (spin-off of Unusual Trilogy, in development)
Angry Birds Slingshot Frenzy (In development)
Super Mario Flashback: Really Good Edition (In development)
Super Hilda DX (In only conceptual phase)

Yes, I am aware that I have about 6 or so fangame projects currently in development at the same time. And yes, I am also aware that all of this is very ambitious.
+ List of projects I'm helping out with in some small capacity during my hiatus:
[+]Spoiler
Super Mario Bros Dimensions 2 (as a spriter, only for Mario's sprites)
MFGG Community Fangame Project 3 (as a spriter)
WordGirl ReWired (as a artist)

I left my thoughts on the discord before but I'll more concisely leave them here. It is confusing on those test levels mostly because of the layout and placeholder graphics. Once the graphics are replaced and the objects become more comprehensible I think it will be fine. It looks like a fun hectic game to play.

Thanks for thy he feedback! I guess the enemies and objects are a little all over the place and non comprehensible. However, arent there a lot of Marko levels with such layouts? I remember some levels at the end of Mario Bros 3 are like bullet bells.

As for the graphics, I'm thinking of working on those myself. I've been told I'm a decent sprinter so it shouldnt be a problem. It also would go well with my art style I'll have.

I do have about 30 levels planned all based on Holidays and I have given them descriptions in the form of words. Should go ok. I have four main powerups planned (there are two seen in the videos).

For Mario's running, I get most people probably like the traction and friction of Mario's speed up and slow down but I like the stability in this game. Maybe a bit of speed up and slow down would be a good idea but then I might need to reprogram a lot of stuff. I dont think reprogramming is the best route. Thanks though.

What problems did you have with the layout? @Evil Yoshi Toes

What problems are there with the layout? If I have not addressed it in my last post.
