What's all this, then?
The Ye Olde MFGGe Game Jamboree is a game jam in which you, dear reader, (hopefully) make a game like the ones described in the ancient
scriptures of "Bowser Tech", whatever that is.

Okay, so could you describe that in a way that's not stupid?
Ahem. Your theme is "a game that's like the oldest games on the main site". Stuff like MarioQuest, Mario vs New Wario Order World Tour, Yoshi Dead and Loving It!,
Mario Looses His Hat, Legacy of the Golden Hammer, and everyone's favorite, Paper Mario World. If you want examples of new games that do it right, there's
stuff like Mario's Banging Day Out: Episode Mario, Mario Drinks A Glass Of Milk and most of Misteryt1MFGG's games.

So it's the "Ironically Bad Game Jam"? Lovely.
Well, I mean, if you want it to be, sure. However, while it does net you figurative bonus points (remember, this isn't a competition), your game doesn't need
to be "bad" to qualify. As long as it has some weird, surreal element to it, it'll be fine. You can make the best damn game in the world if you want, as long as
it's about Donkey Kong and Dick Vitale going out for milkshakes and defeating Mecha-Homer.

Here are some random examples of things you could do:
*A game where all the resources are from 200X but all the jokes are from 2019
*An "old-style" (a.k.a. bad) Sonic fangame made entirely with Sonic Mania assets (bonus points if it's called "Sonic Mania") (and yes, there are Sonic Mania MIDIs out there)
*A sequel to some ancient MFGG game (personally, I'm still waiting for Mario Looses His Hat 2)
* Random MFGGers host a volleyball tournament
* Yoshi tries to steal the Thunder Dragon statue to pay for his unpaid taxes
* A Waligie game. Those are still hip, right?

I like rules. Are there any rules? Give me some rules. Please. I beg of you.
You are free to interpret the theme as you see fit, so I'm afraid I don't have very many hard-and-fast rules for you,
but guidelines are sort of like mini-rules, so if those will do, here are some:
* The simplest one: make it weeeeird. Don't just settle for "Mario goes to the store", make "Mario goes to the dog hair store and encounters the Beatles on the way" instead.
* MIDIs, MIDIs, MIDIs. OGGs and MP3s are for wusses (though wusses are obviously more than welcome to participate too), though a low-quality .wav of your favorite TV show theme is where it's at.
* Don't flaunt those graphical muscles too much. However, putting a few overly-complicated graphical effects into your game just to show that you can is a long-held tradition.
* Make some deliberate errors. Mistime animations, leave in stray pixels, make character movements erratic. That stuff is authentic. Artisanal. Ge-nu-wine.

Because it seems a bit unclear to some people, let me reiterate that there are no rules. You can make your game
in TGF or GM6 if you want to, but you can also use CTF2, GMS2, code it in C++ or whatever. You can use MIDI,
WAV, OGG, MP3 or MOD, and your graphics can be 2D, 3D or 4D. The feeling of your game
is much more important than the program you make it with or the resources you use.

So what do you mean by "Jul 6-8"?
It's the span of time you should make your game in. However, I do recognize that most people have better things to do than make a bad game about Mario's left nut, so
if you're unable to make a game at that point in time, hopefully you can make one before it. Furthermore, you can try to come up with a really great idea in the next few days.

Also, if you make your game before Jul 6, please don't post it before then (unless you absolutely have to).

Are there any badges for this dumb crap? Badges make anything worthwhile to me.
There will be a badge. We're not quite sure what it'll look like yet, but most likely not like this:

I think this idea's dumb, so I'mma boutta head out. Cya.
Bye then, Mr. Question Man. If anyone else has any questions or suggestions, feel free to post.
If you want to tell me this is a dumb idea and that I should take a long walk off a short pier, that's welcome too.

The world needs this. Who knows - maybe I'll do something if I can summon a bit of free time.

I wish newer versions of Game Maker didn't hate MIDIs, although you can always soundfont a MIDI with a so-so soundfont, or you can use a different ye olde game-making tool!
Course clear! You got a card.

Sign me up for sure. I'm like 99% sure the other staff are fine with a badge, though I can't guarantee it'll be the one you whipped up - in fact, I think I have an idea for something appropriate given the theme of this jam Soveryhappy

I have a million and one ideas for this, and honestly I'm not sure what I should do for it... could be anything, really.

Alright guys and gals, I'm going to be one of the saviors contributors here and help make y'all suffer:

Here is the registration code for "The Games Factory 1.06 Pro" Edition:
[+]Spoiler
#S#FCDXGMZF5QAZRR2GDS62A2SJXECLYLKGZLFMI5LU2IQZACSHRCPWQHALYX1KRCJTPINGIRHFJIBCMKI6XJFYW5QGNE32B2ZZ#E#

And the download link to it: https://www.clickteam.com/download-centr...d-products
(Find "The Games Factory 1.06" under the Retired Products section)

Notes for Installing:
  • It's gotta be in the "C:\GFactory" directory, otherwise it won't work.
  • During installation, it'll ask you if you want the unregistered version, home version, or Pro version. You want the PRO version. (that's what the serial code is for on the top of my post.)
  • You'll need the CNC DLL files, found on MFGG. (Or right here: https://mfgg.net/index.php?act=resdb&param=02&c=6&id=7)

Yep. This is happening.

I still have MMF with the library assets that come with it... I'm definitely joining in! My product will no doubt be atrocious, but this sounds like a ton of fun. I'm going to try my best.

This is quite simply a fantastic idea for a comp. If I can think of something stupid enough, I'll do my best to work on something during those 48 hours.

Just to be clear, I updated the main post to say that you don't have to use any one specific program to make your game(s).

I feel like some people are going to use Clickteam products simply due to how popular they were in ye golden times. Which is a cool decision imo.

I'll probably stick to Godot myself though.

I have a question though, is it okay if I convert a MIDI to a .wav file?

For Pete's sake, how many times do I need to say that THERE ARE NO RULES? You can use MIDIs, WAVs, MP3s, OGGs, convert MIDIs to WAVs, convert WAVs to MIDIs, or even create your own file format if you so choose. I'm just saying that in general, your game's probably going to feel more authentic if you use MIDIs, but there's absolutely no harm in going ham with wacky songs (like how most Mr. Pence games do).

Well when you leave this:

MIDIs, MIDIs, MIDIs. I don't want to hear none of that newfangled .ogg or .mp3 crap. Low-quality, badly-compressed .wavs are fine, but still on thin ice.

It's not that obvious, so no need to yell at people about it.

That was a bit poorly worded, so sorry about that (though it does say it's merely a guideline on top of it).

Speaking of olde-timey resources,

here's an ancient collection of MIDIs that came with some early Clickteam products.

You've almost definitely heard some of these classics if you've played enough old MFGG games.

For MIDI's, I'm using https://www.vgmusic.com/

It's uh, the best and I don't know what I'd do without it. Been using it since the Games Factory was king.

For sounds, I'd recommend searching MFGG.net.
