Hello all,
This is my first time posting here, so...

The gist is that in-between Cap Kingdom and Cascade, the wire is broken, and you collect Star Coins to make your way back off of the island (since honestly, a wire out of thin air to get you to Cascade is honestly pretty weird, even though it's a Mario game). There's 30 Star Coins in total, and an assortment of stamps that you can collect on the side. Get 15 and make your way to Twilight Tower to beat the game!

This game takes a lot of inspiration from the base game as well as some of the criticism in the (in?)famous It's No Masterpiece (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYJx5xt2cB0) critique. Most notably, you'll find that you may need those extra 10 coins, and that the collectibles are more spread out (in most cases).

I've also removed the capture in favor of a move called the "Hatsorb" which gives you a new power without the cost of mario's moveset. In that way, they seem more like regular power-ups, but I've tried to make them varied.

A few screenshots...

I've also posted a short trailer showcasing a bit of the gameplay.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRTJFdoVidw

And that's the game! You'll find that if you beat the game, you'll get a cheat code each time. Nothing will happen if you get it wrong, so if you think you did it right, press up before you retry it to reset the queue. It can be finicky.

It's in a completed state, but I'm sure I'll probably end up fixing a few bugs and stuff later down the line. It's also been submitted to NCFC and the main site as well, so hopefully it'll be available soon there as well.

Criticism and thoughts appreciated!

Patched the game to 1.0.4!
* Overhauled Mario's ground control.
** Increased Mario's base movement speed by 27%
** It is now more difficult to skid unintentionally.
** Mario's normal jump height for regular, double, triple, spin, and side somersault jumps has been increased.
** Mario can now vault slightly higher.
** Mario will now "start running" twice as fast (You will reach the speed cap for running faster).
** You can now adjust your position in the air when in a side somersault.
** Various other minor changes for (hopefully) more fluid movement.
* Checkpoints you haven't triggered before will now heal 1 HP if you are hurt.
* Halved the distance at which Sumo Bros. or Bowser will cause the player to be stunned.
* Mario can now only be stunned when Bowser performs a stomp attack.
* The default aspect ratio is now 3:2.
* Added a new dialogue for the Zappit fight.
Just as before, redownload from the link in the original post to get the patch. Your saves and preferences should transfer if you replace the executable jar in the original folder.

Patched the game to 1.0.2!
* Minor translation fixes.
* Jelli will no longer overwrite previously bought moon batteries if the player has bought some from stores prior to meeting her.
* The best time is now displayed in the options screen.
* You will no longer trigger dialogue accidentally when trying to hip drop jump near NPCs.
* Fullscreen should now black out space not used by the program on windows devices.
* Fixed a crash that would occur when the player tried to leave the file select on a file past the 20th row.
Just as before, redownload from the link in the original post to get the patch. Your saves and preferences should transfer if you replace the executable jar in the original folder.

Patched the game to 1.0.3!
* Minor translation fixes.
* Reduced memory overhead by loading and unloading music tracks during gameplay.
* Fixed a bug where Mario would still be dragged by platforms if he walked off of them onto level ground.
* Hitting brick blocks with nothing inside with enemies on top will now properly KO them (If they are KO-able).
* Fixed a bug where opening the map the frame the player died would softlock the game (hopefully).
* Updated README.txt with additional troubleshooting tips.
Just as before, redownload from the link in the original post to get the patch. Your saves and preferences should transfer if you replace the executable jar in the original folder.

I'll edit this post with other patches as they come out.

The trailer looks good, QW2. You must have spent a lot of time programming all those gameplay mechanics.

The only thing is that the animation looks a little clunky. Is your video 60 FPS or 30 FPS?
