...if we wanted SMB1 with a save feature, we'd just emulate it... and SMBDX really is just a portable SMB1 with a save feature and some bonus stuff.
Also for the record, 73 megabytes for a demo with eight levels is a bit much. You really need to research how to significantly reduce the file size.
- White font on a bright yellow background is completely unreadable. Don't do that.
- I couldn't figure out how to run as Mario with keyboard controls and it's impossible to do run and jump with your click on screen controls. Those controls should also be optional and shouldn't be on screen.
- That map screen isn't even close to SMBDX.
- No visual cue when you're invincible makes it hard to tell when your invincibility is about to end and it feels like Mario jumps too high in general as well.
- Your goal is to remake the game into Super Mario All Stars style, but that game already exists in SMAS. And, tbh, it plays better. It's not completely unplayable but I was expecting a lot more from this because you're copying the level design from an established game.
- Some of the graphics look nice and Mario's movement is pretty decent, it's just not a better version of SMB1 than is already included in SMAS.
- One of the two main features of SMBDX that sets it apart from SMB1 is that it has a save feature, and that's not even included here.
- Remaking official Nintendo games is risky business, especially when you're offering so little new stuff to the game.
