The proof is in the pudding.

Also in the URL (that thread is tid=1700, this one is tid=1738); for every thread, MyBB stores a numeric identifier. It's basically a counter that goes up by 1 each time a thread is made and assigns that number to the thread- that number is how a thread is pulled from the database when you load up a topic page and why you see it in the URL.

Not exactly sure how the statics page works, probably just subtracts deleted threads or threads that are in non-public forums.
