I'll never agree about the split, but we could have an entire thread about that if you want. There were a few things handled wrong, of course, but I think the outcome was overall pretty good.
It was sad to see IPB go as I felt like it was a superior platform to any other free php/mysql board offering at the time but it really was unmaintainable at that point. phpBB and MyBB both aren't really great pieces of software so it's a shame we have to settle but it's going to be more functional and secure than IPB at this point. Although if you really love classic IPB boards, classic MFGG member Jcink runs a business out of hosting and maintaining them to this day- I think he's the last of that kind left since InvisionFree was finally bought by Tapatalk about a year ago. (I wish he kept his community boards around- I was always a bigger part of his community than MFGG's and there's just no good way for those of us from that area of the web to reconnect there.)
