why did you take a break after the best one

I was in high school at that point and none of my friends played pokemon anymore. Without the social aspect, I didn't have as much fun as I did with Gold and Emerald. When Black and White 2 was announced I felt no desire to get it.

Now I keep reading that pokemon has been going downhill with the 3DS games. I feel out of the loop, I want to see it for myself.
