While I definitely don't believe leaks, I also don't think that the series is dead forever like some people seem to think just because Color Splash sold poorly. Nintendo knows the Wii U was a failure, and they haven't killed any series yet just because the Wii U entry did poorly.
Now, will they go back to the classic formula? That's what I'm not entirely sure about. For what it's worth, Color Splash WAS a good deal closer to the original games than Sticker Star was, even having an EXP system of sorts in the game, and the writing/character variety was much better in that one as well. Even if they don't straight up revisit the original formula 1:1, I think that after Sticker Star they ARE trying to move the series closer in the direction of a proper RPG again.
