You will need to reset your computer. Because the game is so sensitive to how much RAM your computer has stored over time, and because it's a game that uses high priority, it may be optimal to either close some applications to free up RAM, or just to reset your computer.
Also, if you don't know, press F10 to see the FPS and memory usage.
And if this is not the case, then I honestly have no idea. If you were on the World Map when the game began to lag, that's strange; we went out of way to optimize it.
