@Pedigree - From my experiences, most people know more about the games they played than who made them, since most people are "casual gamers." They usually recall "playing Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc. on the Wii (or whatever console they played it on)." Also, if you search up Mario or Nintendo on Google, you're not going to see MFGG come up so quickly. Correct me if I'm wrong, but "Mario fan games" will probably get more hits than "Nintendo fan games." As for your topic regarding Nintendo going after fan-works, I took the liberty to read it before I wrote my opinion. And you say a lot of "maybe"s and "probably"s. Yes. I agree. Perhaps now we are safe. But maybe becoming a Nintendo Fan Games Galaxy site will be too much. As you wrote:

It's true that MFGG's been around for 16 years, but as MFGG. Not as NFGG.

I like the idea of a world2.mfgg.net for satellite MFGG related but not quite Mario related things.
Although, Waligie DOES have its own website now:
http://geoshities.com/dipstick/

Explore it, it's funny.

Alternate Proposal:

"Mainsites" for several different franchises, like we had before, but all using the user db of the LumaSMS MFGG. Revive versions of M:FM, ZFGN, MMFN, KFGP

If I were to give my two cents on this (Which I will right now), I'd say that this is a good thing. Even if it does split everything apart and take non-Mario fans away from MFGG for good, then maybe we'll attract new members who could end up joining the Mario side. I'd love to see a new part of this community grow, showing off more than just one series that may or may not get boring after a while to some people.

What I'm saying is, if we add a new part of MFGG that isn't Mario-related, we're opening up new opportunities for people to join and see what we have to offer. It's a good chance for old members to see everything we like to do outside of Mario.

As for the themes and such, I could give it a shot. I've never made a forum theme before, but when it comes to the graphics for it, I'm up for doing that.

If you're still looking for a good name, too, I thought of "Fangamers Unite!". Just a little ring on people coming together to collab and make amazing projects.

Wouldn't it be better to just add an extra section for non-Mario stuff in the same site? I do agree that allowing non-Mario stuff could be good, but no need for splitting. An extra category will do fine for those who want to look specifically for non-Mario stuff, while the community is just the same.

We can also make use of tags for franchise, so they can be filtered by search as well.

This is kind of what I envisioned, though I wouldn't bother with the names, i'd rather see a unified naming structure.

I go to a few websites that have different sections for different games, some are fairly good while others feel a bit tedious when it comes to changing between the sites. Something like Nexusmods comes to mind on the tedious or confusing side, or perhaps Mmo-champion switching between the different news updates for Warcraft/Hearthstone/Overwatch.

I can see it working with a main hub, where it's "Welcome to NFGG, pick your poison" and people choose what sections they want. Similar to how The Spriters Resource has multiple sections with different layouts that're basically the same site, such as Spriters Resource, Textures Resource, Model's Resource etc.

You guys are not thinking outside the box far enough. That is why Minus World exists. If we wanted games that fit the true "joke game" category or such semi-related material it would be done on a Minus World official page already, bros. Cool

@Parakarry Yeah, the Waligie site is glorious indeed. For those who haven't checked it out, you need to do so. Now.

@Kritter I think I like that design.

@Gato I remember Kyori talking about making a mainsite for Minus World. However, that was almost a decade ago, and MW ended up evolving into a less development-oriented community. (Also, Kyori vanished.)
Course clear! You got a card.

I would personally prefer the tVGR system: no hub page, you're always on one of the sites, or the forum. Maybe the forum could be the Nintendo hub, and the sites would all be different?

I don't like how the "main" page is the forum though at VG resource. I don't necessarily like hub pages either but it makes for a better "face" for a website than a forum in my opinion.

I'm fine with this as long as 80% is still Mario-centered, because the whole reason I join is because MFGG is Mario-centered, not Nintendo

If we follow Kritter's layout it'd be 1/3 Mario related. I assume the Mario section would be the most active at first, since the current members probably like Mario, but as time goes on that could change.
Mario is still under the Nintendo umbrella and it's the most prominent Nintendo franchise so I'm sure there would be plenty of opportunity to discuss Mario even if we do end up branching out to other franchises.

I only used those 3 as examples, assuming we'd likely have Kirby and other games as subsections.

Really I don't care if Mario stays the focus, we're all Nintendo fans here, not just Mario fans. People come for something like Mario but they'll stay for much more than that.

The best course of action would ideally be to plan out a method of expanding during the interim; as far as I know, LumaSMS's implementation is still undetermined, so it would be wise to work out what to do until then, seeing as it could be any length of time from now.

It's actually fairly planned out and developed, there's just a lot of work to do on top of the framework that's there now.
