Minigame Competition - Sneaking

As your new forum administrator, I wanna bring back the weekly competitions we had on the MFGG early days. And I'm beginning with a brand new minigame competition.

The theme for this competition is SNEAKING

You have to do a minigame in which you have to sneak through it without getting detected

Here's some rules:

- You may not submit works created before the creation of this topic.
- You may use any program to create the game
- You may use existing code

Competition will begin November 7th and you'll have until December 1st to finish your entry

I think this contest needs to be promoted heavily so more people can join into the fun.

Yes, I am aware that I have about 6 or so fangame projects currently in development at the same time. And yes, I am also aware that all of this is very ambitious.

I have to ask; why is there a rule against not being able to use "existing open-source frameworks"? What purpose does that serve? It's not like this is a contest of coding skill; if you download some 3D platformer template, haphazardly slap some platforms around, cover them in poorly-resized textures, and play some 32kbps Mario music on top of that, you're probably not going to win. And not only that, but what does the rule even mean? Like, does it mean I'm allowed to use the default Clickteam platform movement since that's closed-source (I think), but I'm not allowed to use a custom engine someone else made? What kind of sense does that make?

All the rule is doing is wasting people's time. I'd much rather use a solution that already exists and build some interesting gameplay loops/levels/gimmicks/whatever around it than spend half the contest time copy-pasting code from a YouTube tutorial (or does that count as "using existing open-source frameworks" too?).

Hmm... I don't think anyone is going to care (or even notice) if you use a simple platform template that takes care of basic features (running, jumping, and so forth) - just as nobody's going to complain if you copy a bit of code you found online for, say, your textbox engine. I don't know if Minigame Competitions/Game Jams are the place for things like Gatete's or Hello's engines - though even then, that rule might be a holdover from the days when MFGG got a lot of hastily-assembled engine edits.

@OssieTheOstrich Agreed! This deserves some Twitter hype and a shoutout on the mainsite.
