You have just not properly pushed your agenda. See, if you truly want to get your message across your have to consistently push your agenda on to other places within the community like a true politician. For example, new spriter mini comp appears and the subject is "Mario fishing". You could have Mario reeling out a big ass sign that says "Make MFGG your homepage." Make your facebook profile picture "Make MFGG your homepage" For the music competition commission Yoshin to make you a track titled "Make MFGG your homepage". It really doesn't matter what it sounds like the title is the most important part as it sets the vibe. No more half-assing. If you're going to call yourself King, then be the king you are and fight till the very end. I'll catch you later on the other-side homepagebro.................

I used to check and check often here in 2015-2016 but then I took a break, and when I stumbled upon here by a youtube video I chose to make an account.
I like to chew mushrooms and kick goomba.

I love this place and I don't think it's really replaceable. This is the first forum or even discussion place on the internet I've really been on.
ive been 100% focused on the discord for the past month or so, its not really for everyone but im used to it by now.
the forums have largely been a ghost town outside of ppl who arent on or dont like the discord, theyre very dangerously close to being axed by this point. the forums are much better for cataloging fangame projects anyway

I can't stand Discord as a replacement for forums. I do have Discord, and tried keeping up and relevant with the MFGG Discord, but it's just too much at once in a live format that doesn't work well for any one who doesn't have a bunch of free time each day. You do get faster results for conversation, replying and answers, but it comes at the cost of the conversation between a set of people that might have been able to give input. It works fine if there's a small set of people in the server, but a large amount of people doesn't help. Too many times did the following happen: - Had a lovely conversation, put a pause on it because I had to go do some sort of errand for anywhere between 20 minutes to a 9 hour shift at work. By the time I get back, I forget we even had the conversation, or what the topic even was. - Had a lovely conversation, put a pause on it because I had to go do some sort of errand for anywhere between 20 minutes to a 9 hour shift at work. By the time I get back, how the hell do I bring the topic back up without people saying "that was 8 hours ago, why are we still talking about it" or just generally having it be awkward. - Had a lovely conversation, put a pause on it because I had to go do some sort of errand for anywhere between 20 minutes to a 9 hour shift at work. By the time I get back, it's not even the same people I was conversing with, and I'm not going to ask a new set of people to scroll through thousands of messages to read a conversation I was having with some one else just so they don't repeat the same things we discussed already. - Can't even have a conversation to begin with because 15 other people want to have their 5 other conversations at the same time. - You try to engage in multiple conversations and... yeah, impossible. It just works better on a forum format, you can keep a topic going without it being awkward, replying days later, and it's all good. But forums are dying, and social media has become the better, more modern way to keep this up without a live chat-like format. Too bad platforms like Facebook are horrendous for notifying you on comment chains on public posts, so most of the time if I try to start a comment and some one replies, I don't even get to know about it, and have to keep checking my Activity Log and sort through it (and most of the time, Facebook doesn't even single in on your comment, you have to go through all the comments to try to find it, so screw doing that).

It's weird because nothing decent has really replaced forums. Forums, instant messengers, and chat rooms all co-existed just fine for years.
Forums have a lot of good aspects that haven't really been replaced by anything else. Particularly, community, the longevity and archiving of conversations, and personalized atmosphere. Also many forums are still way more alive than MFGG. For example (I've mentioned this before), just look at the Animal Crossing-focused Bell Tree Forums, and look how many people are online. Or look at SMWCentral. I honestly don't know what happened, or why MFGG has lost its activity. Though it has a lot to do with discord, I think it also has to do with the drama that occurred way back, and the way the forums got too serious and strict for a while, then by the time it turned back to a casual community-driven vibe, too many people had already left.

A lot of forums are still really active like GBATemp, Smashboards, PokeCommunity, Serebii, etc., most of which are as old as the MFGG forums. What killed the MFGG forums was a combination of abandoning the Invision forums in '09 requiring everyone to re-register, the split in 2010, and then abandoning the new forums for yet ANOTHER forum requiring people to register yet again (which was also abandoned for this one). Instead of trying to help the forums grow and expand, the admins forbid any kind of fun community talk, current news/events, general video game discussion, and made it strictly about fangames and development, making it much less accessible and far more of a niche community than what it used to be. The drama didn't help either.

Like others have said, I've been on here too long. Also, I have yet to make a fangame. I think about MFGG CONSTANTLY. I am fairly active on the discord and people know me, which is a good feeling. I am more driven nowadays to make games. I suffered psychosis for a few years then started partying a lot. Eventually went back to MFGG when I transitioned. Been working on school now. Life is busy, I don't have much time and I have responsibilities. I don't go on MFGG much. But I do think about it... CONSTANTLY.
I think this is the default state for those oldbies who were active during 2006-2010. We loved this place. It was our highschool get away. I cared more about making minigames, entering competitions, than I did about school. I was an addict, like that old guy Hatman said. I'm 30 in June. Somewhat have my s*** together. I want to make a Mario fangame, but that just depends on my time outside of a real job in the video game industry. I wish it could be high school forever, but that's life. Gotta move on.

I was a former member over 10 years ago and am finally back! Let's keep MFGG alive, the community of developers, hackers, musicians, artists and Mario Fan Game appreciators is still strong~ I am back and excited it's still an existing thriving community!
I started a brand new retro gaming livestream-channel to rekindle my love for these classic gams, for fan-made games, rom hacks and randomizers~ It's been a blast so far and spending a few hours scrolling through the WIP topic and other sections of the forum has inspired me a lot~
